We Remember by Barbara Joas
On this 29th day of August not too long ago
Royalty touched the face of the earth.
The most successful entertainer of all time
Unrecognizable by sight, a mystifying bundle of glow sparked
Incomparably talented beyond his worth
We remember the time when you rocked our world and
We vow to rock with you till our last breath
We remember the time you moon walked across stage,
Pulled out that bad glove, grabbed your crotch and tilted your hat
Like the smooth criminal you were
We remember your innocence, how you reeled our bodies
Into wanting you back, and yes we gave you one more chance
Chance after chance after chance to demonstrate your flawless,
Timeless music. Music so powerful it thrilled us, beat us, rocked us,
Freed us, and OH, the way it made us feel?! Speechless!
We remember the chart-topping hits that dominated our
Dance floors and consumed our playlists.
You may be gone physically, but your memory is inescapable.
We embrace your body of art; we protect it like our own
So as you’re up there resting in the bosom of God,
And you ask us if we remember the time we fell in love,
When we first met...
We smile right back at you and reply, Yes!
We celebrate your life, taken too soon but God is still good.
A life with so much more room to bloom, and at the time
We didn’t realize the double-entendre of This Is It
Only that wasn’t it...
We won’t stop till we get enough because even the
Man in the mirror can’t deny the essence of your artistry.
We remember when your lyrics pierced our souls,
Shot through our veins like heroine
Making us want to damn near SCREAM
And because of your impact, we know we are not alone
As your spirit hovers over us, voice singing endless melodies...
Can you hear him sing?
You shared your life with the world, your gift with the music,
Your heart with the broken, your very magic with the human race
And that’s why we’ll always remember you as the
King of Pop

I tried to incorporate most of my favorite MJ songs in the poem. What's your favorite?
It's the anniversary of her death, and there are countless tributes out there celebrating the R&B songstress, Aaliyah, whose life was taken in a plane crash August 25, 2001. She'll always be remembered for her amazing talent as a performer. For me, her memory lives on with one of my favorites (below)...I'm sure you would agree :)
